Summary

chillsThe writing is great with lots of twists and turns in the story! The psychotic evil of the characters is chilling!

It is an easy-to-read book with short chapters that kept my interest from the very beginning to the very end。 I thought the book had too many casually written advertisements in it and in my opinion, there were a couple of errors。 I didn't find it realistic that Florence had writer's block, yet she was able to stay up until 3 am to complete a novel that she would be proud to be published。 I didn't find it realistic that the police officer didn't ask Miss Wilcox what her friend's name was at the r It is an easy-to-read book with short chapters that kept my interest from the very beginning to the very end。 I thought the book had too many casually written advertisements in it and in my opinion, there were a couple of errors。 I didn't find it realistic that Florence had writer's block, yet she was able to stay up until 3 am to complete a novel that she would be proud to be published。 I didn't find it realistic that the police officer didn't ask Miss Wilcox what her friend's name was at the restaurant。In my opinion, the book had a big editing error。 "Helen had inundated her with so much research that she hadn't gotten around to it。" This is contradictory to the fact that Florence had asked Helen if she wanted her to do some research and Helen said no, she just wanted a feel for things。"It made no sense to me why Florence sent a resignation email on the behalf of Helen。Some of my favorite quotes:"Her fair skin flushed easily, whether with shyness or fervor was never quite clear as if her creator had been torn between the competing impulses of purity and perversion。""For God's sake, you can't have all the f。。。ing cookies, and then come take our crumbs too!""This isn't about whatever absurd scorecard you keep in your back pocket, Amanda。""Every one of them probably had half a novel tucked away in some drawer。 But you don't go around calling yourself a writer until it is out of the drawer。""The words dribbled from his mouth like soup。""You shouldn't have to try to like things, Florence insisted。 It's like people that force themselves to finish a book they're not enjoying。 Just close it, go find another story。""That women's moral compass is in dire need of some WD-40。""She had a face you wanted to look at for a long time。""I think it was Hitler's mother's name。""There is a crucial difference between a loss and a lack。""You don't throw away a winning lottery ticket just because it gets a little dirty in your wallet。""Pigeon hearts" (tomatoes)"There is real power in being an outsider, you see things more clearly。""I deplore moderation。""Half measures won't get you anywhere。""She tried to remember her dreams but they faded away like fish。""Their conning had the aggressively cooing tone of a nursery rhyme in a horror movie。"Florence put her hands over her face。 She stayed like that for several minutes until she realized that what she was doing was a type of performance and that she had no audience。""In fact Florence loved books。 The smell of the binding, the roughness of the pages。 But they were nothing compared to the magnitude of what was inside them。""This is why I don't like talking on the f。。。ing phone!""Your alibi was your ignorance。""She'd found the freedom and confidence to just write and she finally had a story to tell。" 。。。more

I really enjoyed this story! Such a quick read and I could hardly put the book down。 Twist and turns all the way up to the end。

This is really a round-up from about 3。6 or 3。7 on my scale。 It kept me reading but there isn't a single really likeable character whom I really wanted to root for in this story。 The protagonist, Florence, is just almost as bad as her nemesis, Helen。 Nonetheless, it's full of intrigue and plot twists that are fun if (sometimes) somewhat predictable。 It's a good "airplane read。" This is really a round-up from about 3。6 or 3。7 on my scale。 It kept me reading but there isn't a single really likeable character whom I really wanted to root for in this story。 The protagonist, Florence, is just almost as bad as her nemesis, Helen。 Nonetheless, it's full of intrigue and plot twists that are fun if (sometimes) somewhat predictable。 It's a good "airplane read。" 。。。more

This book was a super fun twisty thriller。 You never knew where it would go next, and you were never sure just what the characters were capable of。 No one in this book is very likable, but that didn't matter to me - the ride was super fun, and I even found myself rooting for a character who wasn't necessarily a very good person。 If you like thrillers, this one is very enjoyable。Five words to describe this book: twisty, thriller, entertaining, manipulation, writers This book was a super fun twisty thriller。 You never knew where it would go next, and you were never sure just what the characters were capable of。 No one in this book is very likable, but that didn't matter to me - the ride was super fun, and I even found myself rooting for a character who wasn't necessarily a very good person。 If you like thrillers, this one is very enjoyable。Five words to describe this book: twisty, thriller, entertaining, manipulation, writers 。。。more

This book! There were several unexpected twists and turns。 I think I'd have been more invested if any of the main characters were more likable。。。but then would have been able to commit the crimes?? Something to think about! This book starts slow and builds。 Stick with it。 This book! Not revolutionary literature by any means but a fun, lightly suspenseful read。

Vuoden 2021 lempparikirja!! A plot full of twists at the end but the pacing was inconsistent。 The characters were not at all appealing, which made it harder to love。

Gathering my thoughts。 Just WOW。 Go into this with NO knowledge of the book。

3。5 stars rounded down。 At the start of this (audio) book I thought I would be rating it with 4 stars。 The voice of the narrator, Florence, is very clever and had me laughing out loud, particularly in the beginning sections。 People on GoodReads will enjoy the many quips about and references to reading and writing novels。 I listened to this fairly short book in record time, my attention riveted。 The writing and the audio narration are both excellent。 The only negatives are that the twists and tur 3。5 stars rounded down。 At the start of this (audio) book I thought I would be rating it with 4 stars。 The voice of the narrator, Florence, is very clever and had me laughing out loud, particularly in the beginning sections。 People on GoodReads will enjoy the many quips about and references to reading and writing novels。 I listened to this fairly short book in record time, my attention riveted。 The writing and the audio narration are both excellent。 The only negatives are that the twists and turns were somewhat predictable and the ending, though appropriate for the story, was underwhelming。 For these reasons I lowered my rating。 One caveat。 In order to enjoy this book the reader/listener is required to suspend disbelief。 If you need your mysteries/thrillers to approximate real life this book is not for you。Overall, a fun, well-written thriller。 。。。more

Sometimes I feel like a broken record with my, “well it took awhile to get going but that twist totally captivated me” line but guess what…it took awhile to get going but that twist totally captivated me (I stayed up 30 min past my bedtime)!

I get anxious when the protagonist acts badly and this happens a lot in Who Is Maud Dixon。 It’s suspenseful, but not in a way that I can tolerate。 I was about to skip to the end and then my dread turned into eye rolls, as the plot became more convoluted。 A good first novel; a great premise; but a muddled ending。

I really enjoyed this debut mystery novel。 I was able to figure out where one of the main "twists" was going which is unusual for me。 But that didn't diminish my enjoyment of the novel。 I could say more but don't want to venture into spoiler territory。 It was a very fast read, which we always love。 Will definitely read from this author again in the future。 I really enjoyed this debut mystery novel。 I was able to figure out where one of the main "twists" was going which is unusual for me。 But that didn't diminish my enjoyment of the novel。 I could say more but don't want to venture into spoiler territory。 It was a very fast read, which we always love。 Will definitely read from this author again in the future。 。。。more

At the recommendation of Ann Patchett, I bought this book from Parnassus Books。 This book was a satisfying and easy read, perfect to finish in two weekends of readings。 Had I not suffered from "I have too much to do to sit and read all day I could have finished it one weekend-that's how much it kept my attention。 It's a mystery with enough twists to keep you going hmmm and I was thinking about halfway through, I see what Florence wants to do here。 My intuition proved correct as Florence takes on At the recommendation of Ann Patchett, I bought this book from Parnassus Books。 This book was a satisfying and easy read, perfect to finish in two weekends of readings。 Had I not suffered from "I have too much to do to sit and read all day I could have finished it one weekend-that's how much it kept my attention。 It's a mystery with enough twists to keep you going hmmm and I was thinking about halfway through, I see what Florence wants to do here。 My intuition proved correct as Florence takes on the identity of Helen Wilcox and her pen name Maud Dixon--but for a short amount of time as Helen returns to visit Florence in a terrifying episode in Morocco。 I'll leave the ending for all to enjoy。 The book gives out a shout out to Toledo as the hometown of one of the minor characters, which often leaves me wondering how the author decided on Toledo? Perhaps I'll email her ask。 。。。more

Well this one caught me by surprise and was not on my radar at all。 I really enjoyed it。 It was very current on pop culture and trends and was easy to follow。 It for sure is not full of morals and values but full of entertainment。 I’m glad I took a chance on this one。

Wow, wow, wow! This book blew me away。 It was a quick read which I simply could not put down。 This about sums it up nicely without spoiling it for anyone who has not read it "Lillian had made a crucial mistake。 She had used herself as bait, not realizing that Iris was too famished to be sated by mere proximity to greatness"。 Wow, wow, wow! I finished it fast。 But, it was formulaic and annoying。 There was a twist that I wasn’t expecting but then I was just disappointed in the end。
